Margie Sastry is a writer, editor, translator,researcher and teacher with over five decades of experience in the creative landscape. As the Associate Editor and Scriptwriter for Amar Chitra Katha and Tinkle comics and Partha, her name is familiar to thousands of readers all over the world. In the 1990s,she created an immensely popular children’s feature newspaper Wee Wonder and The Woman Within for The Times of India. Later, she wrote for TV serials Amar Chitra Katha, Surabhi, Khana Khazana, A Touch of Turmeric, IFB Star Sunday Lunch, Musafir hoon Yaaron, Yatra and, Gurukul. Since 2007,she uses her scripts and videos to teach Elective courses for NID, CEPT, NIFT, JKLU,NIRMA and the Faculty of Journalism at M.S.U Baroda. With Ela Bhatt, Founder of SEWA, she worked in Gujarat villages as the Principal Investigator for a Field Study for Ford Foundation, documenting real life stories while also translating Gujarati folk tales into English forfun. From 2015-18, she was an Honorary Director at Bhasha Bhavan, in Gujarat Vidyapith. At present, she lives in Baroda, writing Substack articles and books and has become a certified fitness trainer of Dance with Deepti. Story telling is her core skill especially the Indian folk style that goes on and on and on!
